History

In 1987 Paul Elstak was hired as a resident hip hop DJ in discotheque Bluetiek-Inn in Rotterdam. Here he DJ’ed together with Dutch House pioneer Peter Slagthuis and this period is the absolute beginning of Paul Elstak’s career. In the same period he also met Rob Fabrie and Richard van Naamen with whom he started the group Holy Noise. He had a series of releases with this group on the Hithouse record label of Peter Slaghuis, with the highlight being the song  ’James Brown is still alive’ that went to number 8 in the top 40 in 1991 and was an answer to the popular record ‘James Brown is dead’ by L.A. Style.

After Holy Noise, Paul Elstak established the Forze DJ Team, with which he formed a trio with DJ Panic and DJ Lars. His ‘Forze’ fashion line became incredibly popular in this period among the gabber subculture. Rotterdam Records was established in 1992. Paul Elstak released his own record label under Mid-Town records and the first single ‘Life is like a dance’ was released in 1995. This was followed by several other commercial songs such as ‘Luv U more’, ‘Don’t leave me alone’, ‘The Promised land’ and of course the legendary ‘Rainbow in the Sky’. Several singles reached the Dutch Top 40 but ‘Rainbow in the Sky’ was by far the greatest hit. The record label has in the meantime been discontinued.

After the 90s:

In 2001 Paul Elstak mainly wanted to focus on Hardcore and started a new Hardcore label: Offensive Records. Until today he still releases Hardcore music on this label in his own unique style.

Partly thanks to the revival of Happy Hardcore and the many nineties parties Paul Elstak was asked for, he started concentrating again on Happy Hardcore alongside ordinary Hardcore. He DJs weekly at Hardcore, nineties and freestyle parties for fans all across Europe and there is even a loyal fan base in Australia, the United States and Japan.

On 8 November 2010 the title song he produced of the film New Kids Turbo was released and on 26 March 2011 he won a Rembrandt Award for Best Title Song for this. On 12 May 2011 he was awarded a gold record for the same song.

A few years ago, Paul Elstak, rapper Jebroer and producer Dr Phunk produced the tracks ‘Kind van de Duivel’ and ‘Engeltje’, which both became huge hits 2017. ‘Kind van de Duivel’ scored triple platinum in the Netherlands and Belgium and ‘Engeltje’ double platinum.
